MG Metro Turbo

Loved this car, you could drive it at 100mph everywhere, never needed to slow down for corners, it just went round them.
The longer you owned this car the faster it got, I think this was due to the weight loss through erosion especially around the wheel arches, sills, doors panels and just about every other panel attached to the car.
My left leg muscle got to be twice the size of my right one though due to the heavy clutch peddle, and on top of that the clutch was either off or on, there was no clutch control available….at all.
It has hydro elastic suspension. One year I was due to go to Leyland for new years eve but decided to replace the rear bearings on the suspension arm before I went. This involved de-pressurising the hydro elastic stuff, easily done, bearings changed but now I was left with deflated suspension and every garage that could pump it back up was closed for Christmas and New Year. Fortunately I was doing the work in one very clever farmers shed. Gwyn constructed a pump out of an old bottle jack, so instead of the fluid pushing the lifting ram up it diverted the fluid out through the filler nipple and into my suspension. It was pure genius, I had the pressure checked after I got back and it was perfect, no top-ups needed.
I part ex’d this car for my mighty Kawasaki GPz1000RX in the end. I needed a bike to go touring around France with my ex army, and later best man, Vince.
